OnOff Journal / Buying guides
Your first padel racket should make choosing easier, not give you another set of numbers to decode. Here are three options from our Australian store, with different reasons to put each on your shortlist.
Compare the starting points
| Option | Why compare it? | Listed price on 14 Sep 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Bullpadel Indiga Control 2026 | A round, low-balance racket with Polyglass faces and SoftEVA | AUD 175 |
| Wilson Optix V2 Lite White starter pack | A round racket packaged with balls | AUD 179 |
| HEAD Gravity Team Light 2024 | A listed weight of 340 g, round shape and Control Foam | AUD 255 |
All three were available when checked. Compare the live product pages before ordering: a bundle is not the same purchase as a racket on its own, and price differences are not a ranking of suitability.

Bullpadel Indiga Control 2026 Padel Racket
Start here if you want a straightforward control-focused option. The listed low balance, Polyglass face and SoftEVA core give you specific characteristics to compare. The description does not provide a numerical weight, so ask us for it if weight is central to your decision.

Starter pack : Wilson Optix V2 Lite white + balls
Consider this if you need balls as well as a first racket. The listed round shape, fibreglass construction and low-density foam describe a different package from buying a racket alone. Confirm the pack contents on the product page; do not assume a bag or extra accessories are included.

HEAD Gravity Team Light 2024 Padel Racket
Consider this if you want a reference with an explicitly stated 340 g weight. The product lists a round shape, Control Foam and a fibreglass hitting surface. It is a 2024 model; decide whether those specifications suit you rather than paying more simply for a newer year.
What should your first racket help you do?
Think about the part of the rally you find least comfortable. If you are late on quick volleys, handling belongs high on your list. If your contact is inconsistent, avoid making your decision around smash power alone. Write down one priority before looking at another product.
Try to compare with the same grip setup. An unfamiliar handle thickness can distract you from the racket itself. If you can try a model, use ordinary rallies as well as attacking shots; a few clean smashes tell only part of the story.
Keep the first purchase focused
- Set a budget for the whole setup, including balls or an overgrip if needed.
- Check the exact model and year, rather than buying by brand alone.
- Read the weight and balance together. Ask when a specification is missing.
- Check delivery and returns before paying, especially when comparing an overseas offer with an Australian store.
You do not need a professional player's signature model to begin. Choose a manageable starting point, spend time learning what you like, and let your next upgrade answer a specific need.
